Jacob E. Martinez - Criminal Defense Lawyers Denver, CO - Newell and Decker

Jacob E. Martinez is a Denver native who earned his undergraduate degree from the Colorado College and his Juris Doctorate from the University of Colorado. He has dedicated the majority of a decade to the legal profession, and prior to becoming a licensed attorney he held multiple legal clerkships spanning several areas of law. It is from these diverse legal experiences, which include one year as a Legal Aid criminal defense attorney, that his passion for criminal defense was formed and solidified. It is this passion that sparked Mr. Martinez’s choice to devote his career to representing the criminally accused.

Mr. Martinez is committed to giving a voice to those facing difficult situations, something which has been recognized by the legal community. In 2008, The University of Colorado School of Law awarded him with The Public Interest Service Award, an award he received for his volunteer legal assistance of New Orleans residents harmed by Hurricane Katrina. Mr. Martinez exhibits this same compassion, determination and enthusiasm when defending his clients in courts of law.

Mr. Martinez understands that not everyone who is charged with a crime is guilty. Further, he believes that just because someone may have had a temporary lapse in judgment, or may have made an uncharacteristic mistake, it does not mean the person deserves harsh treatment or a criminal conviction. He believes it is his responsibility to present to prosecutors, courts, and juries the best case possible in order to maximize the likelihood of a favorable outcome, minimize any potential negative consequences, and give his clients the best opportunity to move forward in life unscarred by a sometimes harsh and unforgiving legal system.
